A 10-year-old tribal girl was sexually assaulted allegedly by her father near Pedda Dornala in Prakasam district.
State Women's Commission Chairperson Nanapaneni Rajakumari on Friday called on the girl, who is recuperating at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here.
The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted thrice before her mother picked up courage to lodge a complaint with the police. The police arrested the man on Thursday and booked a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012. The girl, who has been staying in hostel, came home for holidays when her father in an inebriated condition allegedly committed the offence when her mother was away, the police said.

Ms. Rajakumari also called on a 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 23-year-old man at Valaparla, near Martur after promising to marry her. A case under POCSO was registered by the Martur police.
Ms. Rajakumari promised to arrange for her stay in a rescue home and admission into a State-run residential school to continue her studies. She patted the girl’s mother for not hushing up her “husband’s misconduct.”
Noting that such “unfortunate incidents” were on the rise across the nation, more so in rural areas, under the “bad influence of social media”, Ms. Rajakumari said the Commission would take up a sustained campaign at the grassroots level among girls on differentiating between “good touch and bad touch”.

The State government could not be blamed as these incidents were not a result of law and order problem, she opined. They should be subjected to social boycott by the villagers, she said.
