Train services disrupted as high tension wires snap

Workers were fixing iron grids across cement pillars when iron grid fell on the wires on the track

The railway connectivity between Chennai and New Delhi Grand Trunk (GT) route was disrupted as high tension wires supplying power to the trains snapped in Ramagundam of Karimnagar district on Saturday.

The railway authorities took up repair works immediately, but the trains could resume journey only after six hours of halt on the busy GT train route.

Reports reaching here said that railway over bridge construction works were underway when the incident occurred.

Workers were fixing iron grids across cement pillars when a huge iron grid fell on the high tension wires on the railway track snapping them.

Five workers also sustained non-life threatening injuries and were shifted to Godavarikhani area hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, several Delhi-bound trains and others were stranded in various stations.

Probe ordered It also caused serious inconvenience to the passengers. The SCR ordered an inquiry into the incident.
