With the State government contemplating promoting tourism and hospitality sectors, the demand for professionals is likely to go up. Quoting a recent study, P. Narayana Reddy, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Tourism, said more than 10 lakh professionals would be required to meet the burgeoning demand by 2020-22.
Speaking at a function at the State Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition (SIHMCT&AN) here on Saturday, Prof. Reddy said more professionals would be required, considering the government’s thrust on developing the service sector, especially tourism and hospitality industry, in the state.
“In our State, SIHM at Tirupati and Kakinada will address this demand, with the latter planning to commence operations soon. There is also a need to upgrade the skills of private players in the industry, as it will aid in comprehensive development,” he added.

Emphasising the significance of courses in tourism and hospitality industry, SIHMCT&AN Principal S. Bhargavi said the institution had been offering free short-term courses under the Ministry of Tourism’s ‘Hunar Se Rozar Tak’ (HSRT) scheme, to train unemployed youth in food production, bakery and patisserie, food and beverage services and housekeeping.
“In addition, SIHM-Tirupati will offer two courses this academic year (2014-15), which include craftsmanship course in food production and patisserie and certificate course in food and beverage services,” she added.
District Tourism Officer D. Chandramouli Reddy said two other courses – capacity building for service providers, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and B.Sc. hospitality and hotel administration – have been proposed.
