In an attempt to spread awareness on the restructured Animal Adoption programme at the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (SVZP), officials plan to introduce an Information/Adoption Centre on its premises, in the coming days.
The facility would not only appraise people on the current status of endangered and threatened species but also elicit their support in wildlife conservation.
For past few months, the zoo officials have been distributing specially designed brochures on animal adoption, highlighting its importance along with a list of species in the menagerie and their proposed adoption rates. To facilitate more contributions, they have even dialled down the charges to days and weeks.

“The animal adoption programme has received a good response from the people. However, there is a dire need to spread awareness on this issue. The information centre would elucidate visitors on the activities at the zoological park, including the adoption schemes,” zoo curator Y. Srinivasulu Reddy told
Mr. Reddy said that the non-locals (both individuals as well as public and private sector organisations) could adopt animals, birds and reptiles of their choice via online banking deposits.
“The period of adoption may be a day, week, month, quarterly, half-yearly or annually. Donations are exempted under 80G of Income Tax and donors will receive an official certificate of adoption, information sheet about the animal, mention on the zoo’s web wall of adoption and other perks linked to the amount donated,” he added.

The officials said that they would rope in the services of a ‘campaign vehicle’ to spread the message through announcements, photographs, videos etc., in important junctions of the temple city.
