Three arrested, nine autorickshaws seized

Special teams led by Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas, on Saturday night nabbed a three-member gang involved in a series of thefts involving autorickshaws and seized from them as many as nine autos, worth over Rs. 20 lakhs.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr Srinivas said that during the last two weeks, as many as eight cases of autorickshaw-lifting were reported in Palamaner, Baireddipalle and Gangavaram mandals of the district. Special teams were formed to nab the culprits. In this process, the cops nabbed three youth, while moving suspiciously at Kolamasanapalle, on the outskirts of Palamaner, and seized the vehicles.

The nabbed were identified as S. Amanbasha (22) of Kammanapalle village of Baireddipalle mandal, Shaik Kadar Basha (19) of Maszid Street of Baireddpalle and Motla Nagararja (30) of Mekala Nagireddipalle of the same mandal.

The trio confessed to have resorted to lifting six autos in Palamaner and others in Baireddipalle and Gangavaram. Interestingly, the trio had even purchased a new auto with the money obtained from selling the lifted vehicles.

A case was registered, and the arrested were remanded in Chittoor jail.
