The other side of policing

May 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST

The murder of YSRC Raptadu constituency convenor Bhumireddy Prasada Reddy a week ago, and the arson and damage that followed besides the arrest of former YSRC MLA B Gurunath Reddy, has had the tongues of many wagging on the alleged complicity of the police in the murder.

“None in the department is comfortable discussing on the complicity of the police. However, the argument that the police have been lax in performing duty has certainly gained traction amongst people,” he said.

The big catch

The week ended on a note of big hope for the Chittoor Police with the first ever foreign catch in red sanders smuggling case. The arrest of Chinese national Yang Ping in Hyderabad on Thursday, and later developments leading to his remand in Nellore jail has set the investigating teams on the heels of some of the suspect-sheeters. During the last four days, four accused, including Yang Ping, were nabbed, while search is on for another five members of the Ping's gang.
