The All India Senior Tennis Association (AISTA) tennis championship got under way at various tennis courts here on Wednesday. Inspector General of Police, CID, P.V. Sunil Kumar inaugurated the tennis tourney at the Officers Court Tennis Courts Complex in the morning. Matches would be played at NTR Municipal Stadium, LVR Club Tennis Courts, North Club and Police Courts.
Lauding the efforts of the organising committee in hosting the national tourney, Mr. Sunil Kumar reminisced about his tenure in the district and said that playing tennis regularly helped him to maintain physical fitness. The IGP played a few shots after opening the tourney.
Players would compete in the 45+, 55 + and 65 + categories.

Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, T. Shiva Sankar said that tennis tournaments should become a regular feature in the city which is gaining prominence due to proximity to capital region.
Retired judge Ramakrishna Reddy, secretary of Officers Club R.S.R.K. Raju, secretary, AISTA, C.B. Raju, former secretary Sk. Rasool, organising committee members Suryanarayana Reddy and NTR Stadium tennis coach G. Siva Prasad were also present.
In the main draw, R.V. Rama Raju, L. Satya Gopal, P. Sudhakar Reddy, K. Meher Prakash. U. Srinath and G. Lingeswar got into the second round after outplaying the opponents.
