Reiterating their party’s electoral strength, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy expressed confidence that the people of AP are going to give a ‘big shock’ to the YSR Congress Party and the Telugu Desam Party in the general elections.

During his visit to Nellore district, he addressed a press conference here on Monday where he asserted that the 1978 election result would be replicated in this election. At that time, everybody underestimated Congress but the people gave a blow to the Reddy Congress and the Janata Party by giving an emphatic victory to Indira Gandhi’s Congress party, he said.

Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said that people are certain to give a ‘surprise gift’ to the Congress like in 1978 and they are thinking that both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would develop only when Congress is in power. People do not have any faith in the regional parties, which are more interested in stoking regional feelings for electoral gains, he added.

Seeking people’s support for victory of Congress Lok Sabha nominee Vakati Narayana Reddy in Nellore, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said that their party nominees in Assembly and parliamentary constituencies are very strong to ensure victory. While TDP and YSRC chose rich nominees, Congress selected candidates from middle class and poor families, he added.

Mr. Raghuveera Reddy called upon people to punish those leaders who enjoyed their time while in Congress and now left it only to seek protection for their ill-gotten wealth.

Mr. Raghuveera Reddy took objection to what he described as a wrong stance taken by the regional parties in AP and Telangana as they are making provocative speeches against the other State only to attract their respective vote banks.

These parties cannot behave responsibly and only Congress can bring in real development, he asserted.

PCC manifesto committee chairman Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Gudur assembly nominee Panabaka Krishnaiah and others were present.
