SVIMS felicitates blood donors, organisers

A day ahead of ‘World Blood Donor Day – 2015’ celebrations, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Department of Transfusion Medicine felicitated regular blood donors and organisers of various blood donation camps at the varsity’s Sri Padmavati Auditorium here on Saturday.

The programme was held to highlight this year’s theme put forward by the World Health Organisation (WHO) – ‘Thank You For Saving My Life’.

‘Remove apprehensions’

Speaking on the occasion, SVIMS Director and Vice Chancellor B. Vengamma emphasised on the importance of blood donation, comparing the past and present contexts. “In India, more than 75 percent of blood donations are voluntary and the remaining are that of the replacement donors. In near future, we should strive for achieving 100 percent voluntary blood donations by encouraging youngsters and healthy persons,” she said.

Dr. Vengamma also stressed on the need for removing any apprehensions in the minds of people, with regard to blood donation, by conducting awareness drives.‘Living Gods’

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman Chadalawada Krishnamurthy, who presided over as chief guest of the event, termed the blood donors as ‘Living Gods’.

He assured all the necessary help to support the initiatives of SVIMS.

SVIMS Department of Transfusion Medicine Head D.S. Jyothi Bai thanked the blood donors and blood donation camp organisers for their continued support and appealed to the denizens to join the campaign.

SVIMS Registrar V.S.R. Anjaneyulu, Additional DM and HO Varasundaram, and Medical Superintendent Satyanarayana took part.
