Director General of Police J.V. Ramudu inaugurated the 'Police Command and Control Centre', a state-of-the-art facility, under the 'Safe City – Tirupati' programme, envisaged by the Tirupati Urban Police Department, at Tirupati East Police station here on Friday.
The facility, in the third-floor of the police station complex, comprises a traffic signalling system supplemented by a centralised public address system, which is realised through a video wall constituted by Large Format Display (LFD) DB48D Model – 48 inch Full HD commercial LED monitors– installed in a 3 by 3 matrix having nine monitors.
With more than 150 cameras installed at strategic locations in the city, the facility would enable the police to manage traffic and enforce traffic rules through non-intrusive methods. It will also help them maintain law and order, by keeping a track of happenings in the city, especially during the movement of VIP/VVIPs, religious processions and other group activities.

Interacting with the media, Mr. Ramudu opined that the centre not only would strengthen the surveillance and security measures in the city, but also would help in improving the image of the department. “Tirupati has emerged as one of the key cities in the State post-bifurcation, bestowed with a multitude of projects. Such a facility (Police Command and Control Centre) will be instrumental in realising the objectives of the ‘Safe City – Tirupati’ campaign,” he said.
Elucidating the developments of Special Task Force in dealing with the red sanders smuggling, Mr. Ramudu said that the complete details would be announced after sorting out the legal framework, which is in the final stage. He further said that a red-corner notice had been issued on the notorious smuggler Gangi Reddy.
Mr. Ramudu also launched the Facebook Page of the Tirupati Urban Police Department on the occasion. Chittoor Collector Siddarth Jain, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Anantapur Range) B. Balakrishna, Chittoor Superintendent of Police G. Srinivas, Tirupati Urban Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jatti and several officials also took part in the programme.
