Idea is to spread the message among people to stop using plastic

Dump it: Students of Sai Sri High School present a skit during an awareness rally on the ill-effects of plastic pollution, in Tirupati on Wednesday.

When Tirupati has been undergoing a churning in the form of workshops and awareness rallies against the use of plastic for the past one month, the students of Sai Sree High School do not want to be left behind. At an awareness rally, students gave the message loud and clear to immediately shun non-recyclable plastic, as it can wreak havoc on the future generations.

Carrying plastic bags, bottles and covers, besides placards with impressive messages, they shouted slogans like ‘Say No to plastic’.

The rally began at Vidya Nagar and proceeded up to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation office, via SV University, MG Road and Tilak Road.

A skit performed as part of the rally turned out to be an instant hit among the passers-by, who invariably halted their vehicles to watch the performance.

Skit presented

The skit had two students, one dressed as a ‘Plastic demon’ and the other as an ‘exorcist’, who drives away the demon with a magic wand. “Such rallies would go a long way in driving home the message that now is the time to eliminate plastic,” school correspondent B. Kuppaiah said. Headmaster K. Nagaraja called upon the public to shun plastic bags with thickness of less than 2 microns and non-biodegradable products.
