A delegation of the Andhra Pradesh Government led by Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana studied the public transportation systems in Changsha and Guizhou cities on the third day of their China tour on Thursday.

They travelled in trains that run on Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) and examined the possibility of introducing a similar high-speed railway network in the capital city, Amaravati.

Mr. Narayana and his team of officials discussed the prospects of replicating such models of mass rapid transit systems in the State, particularly in Amaravati, in the public-private partnership mode.

Salient features

Local engineers and officials gave a presentation on how trains were operated on the Maglev system, whose salient feature was the movement of trains on an electromagnetic field at an elevation of just eight millimetres from the tracks.

This enables the trains to cruise at great speeds noiselessly with minimum scope for accident.

Mr. Narayana said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was of the view that the best possible mode of transportation should be provided to the public in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, and the highly successful models in various countries were being examined.

Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) R. Karikal Valaven and Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy were part of the delegation.
