Stalemate continues over new Municipal Commissioner

April 23, 2013 11:05 am | Updated 02:05 pm IST - GUNTUR:

High drama continues to unfold in the Guntur Municipal Corporation over the posting of new municipal commissioner. K. Venkateswarlu, who came here on Sunday to take charge, left for Hyderabad after a day of dramatic developments.

Mr. Venkateswarlu, who called on District Collector and Special Officer of GMC S. Suresh Kumar before taking charge, left abruptly leading to speculations over the posting. The Collector was believed to have advised him to wait for some more days.

The GMC has taken up a sanitation programme after agreeing to host the Clean City Championship with in-charge Commissioner P. Srinivasulu heading the team of planners. The GMC has ambitious plans to make the city, a dustbin-free city within a few months.

The programme is being closely monitored by the special officer himself. Days of planning could go waste if the new commissioner does not show interest.

It has been already reported that Minister for Agriculture, Kanna Lakshminarayana, who is also Guntur-West MLA , was not too keen on Mr. Venkateswarlu. The Minister had earlier pitched for R. Venkateswara Rao from the Urban land Ceiling Department.

Going by the developments, it appears that it would take some more days for the stalemate over the posting of new commissioner to come to an end.
