In almost all the cases, bike-borne miscreants made good with gold ornaments, targeting lonely women in isolated areas in various areas under Kancharapalem, Airport, II-Town and a few other police station limits.

Now, all the cases are in various stages of investigation.

City Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha said that special teams had been sent to different States to find leads in the cases.

“Apart from neighbouring districts, police teams have been sent to Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and three more States. We have identified a few suspects, but their whereabouts are yet to be known,” The Police Commissioner told The Hindu . According to the Police Commissioner, the involvement of inter-State gangs, along with the local gangs, is being verified based on the evidences and clues.

“The main accused has been identified and his involvement is suspected in eight to 10 chain-snatching cases. Efforts are being made to nab the offenders at the earliest,” Mr. Laddha said.

On July 19, four chain snatching cases were reported in a span of 45 minutes between 8 a.m. and 8.45 a.m.

Three more cases were reported from the Airport police station limits, while another was reported from IV-Town police station limits. On October 12, five snatching cases came to light in an hour. On November 1 again, bike-borne miscreants targeted women at two separate places in a span of 80 minutes.

Records suggest that 50 chain snatching cases have been reported from the city this year thus far.
