Sobha Yatra marks beginning of Mahalakshmi Yagam

A grand procession of cultural troupes representing various states, aptly named ‘Sobha Yatra’, was taken out from Indira Maidan on Sunday, marking the beginning of the ‘16th Sri Mahalakshmi Yagam’.

The thirteen-day event that began on the Renigunta Road campus of Krishna Teja educational institutions is conducted by ‘Ananta Sri Vibhushitha’ Sri Ramachandra Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy of Bhimavaram. The event coincides with the appearance day of Goddess Mahalakshmi.

A huge contingent of dancers, representing various folk styles and dance forms from Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan, Orissa and other states, participated in the colourful cavalcade that rolled along the arterial roads of the temple city. Devotees and residents all along offered their contribution and received blessings.

On Mar 29 and Apr 4, the Jeeyar will announce the ‘Ashtakshari Mahamantra’ to the public. On April 3, the birth of Goddess Mahalakshmi from the milky ocean will be enacted by pouring 5,008 litres of milk into a makeshift tank. which will be distributed later to the devotees as ‘Prasadam’.
