Siva temples across Prakasam district were spruced up for Mahasivaratri on Tuesday.
Tens of thousands of devotees are expected to throng Bhairavakona, the abode of the Trimukadurga sameta Bhareveswara. The rock cut temples in Bhairavakona with ‘Kala Bhairava’, a fiery form of Lord Siva, as ‘Kshetrapalaka,’ are protected monuments by the Archaeological Survey of India.
‘Maharudra homam’ was performed at the historic Tripurantakeswara Swamy temple at Tripurantakam in the district, the eastern gateway to Srisailam, the abode of Lord Sri Mallikarjuna and Bhramarambha. Manikeswaram, the abode of Ganga Bhramarambha Sameta Malleswara Swamy on the banks of Gundalakamma river, was a beehive of religious activity on the eve of the big festival.
