Victim sent for medical examination

The West Godavari district police registered a case against Dharmajigudem Sub-Inspector L. Rajesh for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman.

The accused police officer was arrested on Tuesday and produced in court which remanded him in judicial custody. The role of SI’s relative, who reportedly assisted him for the offence, is under investigation.

The complainant alleged that the SI detained her and sexually assaulted her a couple of days ago, at his house in the police quarters. The Eluru women police registered the case and took up investigation.

Superintendent of Police Navdeep Singh Grewal said the victim, a native of Telangana State, alleged that Rajesh developed contacts through a matrimonial site and befriended her a few months ago, on the pretext of marrying her. He invited her to his house, reportedly took her nude photographs, blackmailed and exploited her several times, the woman alleged.

“The woman, in her complaint, alleged that the SI detained her for two days and sexually assaulted her. The victim was sent for medical examination,” Mr. Navdeep said. Meanwhile, Rajesh was suspended. During investigation, it was revealed that the SI was in touch with the victim since April this year.
