Short film on A.P.’s IT initiatives

Andhra Pradesh government’s e-governance initiatives have helped in curbing black-marketing by Fair Price shop dealers, eliminating 68 lakh bogus entries and 10 lakh bogus pensions.

These aspects were highlighted in a four-and-half minute film on IT initiatives of the AP Government, which would be made public in the next few days.

The short film depicts how the government used IT and social media to tackle the situation and come to the aid of people during Hudhud cyclone. Highlighting how the government slipped into e-gear during the cyclone, it was mentioned that with “tech-savvy government at forefront and a sensitive administration at controls” the need to stay in touch with the people was identified as the prime need.

It was also mentioned that the setting up of command centres in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam with live feeds from the affected areas, the use of Facebook, twitter and website aided by IVRS, round-the-clock call centres, plus a host of web-based applications saw the whole State bracing up and taking on almost any challenge the cyclone could present. Real time monitoring of power failures, distribution of food and medicines and other initiatives led to minimising losses and saving lives.

“When you e-gear up with sincerity, you e-govern with ease”, says the narrator in the film. Explaining how IT continued to play a key role in the administration, it was stated that the postal department has been roped in to use e-POS devices to authenticate fingerprints across 8,000 locations in the State.

Using initiatives like e-cabinet, the State is poised to become paperless administration. AP-the State that is e-geared to e-govern, observes the narrator.
