Seven -member gang arrested, panchaloha idols seized

The Kurnool police on Monday arrested a seven-member gang and recovered two panchaloha idols and other articles, dating back to the 18th Century, estimated at Rs. 10 lakh, from them.

Boya Urukundappa, Boya Eerappa, Shaik Mahabub Basha and Syed Taher, all of Adoni; and Mohammed Sharif, Shaik Ali and Nawabpet Allah Bakash of Kurnool were arrested at Nirmalnagar here while they were trying to sell the idols, Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna said.

Confess to crime

The gang members confessed to having dug up several ancient temples and decamping with the panchaloha idols of Nagadevatha and Lord Siva, five golden lizards, a brass pitcher and a brass plate, the Superintendent of Police said.
