Reiterating their demand to keep the State united, Union Ministers from Seemandhra region have appealed to the party leadership against going ahead with its decision to carve out separate Telangana.
A delegation of eight Union Ministers from Seemandhra region met the high-level committee headed by Defence Minister A.K. Antony late on Thursday evening. They made a forceful plea to the committee against bifurcation of the State as a majority were opposed to it. During the close to two-hour meeting, they warned the panel about the new complications and problems that would arise if the State was bifurcated.
The delegation comprised Ministers Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, V. Kishore Chandra Deo, M.M. Pallam Raju, K. Chiranjeevi, Panabaka Lakshmi, D. Purandeswari, Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy, and J.D. Seelam. MPs Chinta Mohan and Renuka Chowdary and AICC observer Thirunavukkarasu were also present.

The meeting comes in the light of mounting pressure on the Congress leaders to join the agitation, quitting their posts if necessary, to ensure that the State was not divided. It assumes significance as the Congress leadership had already clarified that there was no going back on the CWC’s decision and the committee had been constituted to take into consideration the grievances expressed by the people of Seemandhra region.
