The South Central Railway (SCR) has beefed up security across all stations under its jurisdiction in the light of the blasts at Chennai Central Railway station, which killed one person and injured several others.
The Railway Protection Force personnel along with their general railway police counterparts intensified patrolling and conducted extensive checks at railway stations and trains in the zone. Passengers were advised to remain alert during the course of their journey and bring to the notice of the railway authorities if they noticed any suspicious/unclaimed articles or explosives/inflammable material in trains or at stations.
Passengers can alert the railway staff or call on 040-27833366 or send an SMS to 09701370728 to enable the railways to initiate prompt action. Passengers have been asked not to carry fire crackers/inflammable substances like gas cylinder, petrol, diesel and kerosene stoves, lanterns, explosive chemicals and detonating substances.

The SCR warned that carrying inflammable and explosive articles was a punishable offence entailing punishment of up to three years imprisonment or fine up to Rs. 1,000 or both, according to a press release.
