June 30, 2014 10:49 pm | Updated 10:50 pm IST - ANANTAPUR:

For the first time, the people of Anantapur are set to be treated to the Haleem - the delicacy of the Nizams of Hyderabad. haleem, a dish which claims it’s origins to the Arabian peninsula, and brought to India by the Mughals, to be perfected and made suitable for the Indian palate by the Nizams, has eventually made its entry into the town, with the Empire restaurant starting to serve the dish from Monday, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.

“We have on offer both chicken galeem and mutton galeem although we expect the Mutton variety to hold sway in sales”, said Syed Mohammed Shabbir, Managing partner of the empire restaurant which is the first and the only restaurant in town serving authentic and delectable Hyderabad fare.

The sale of haleem, as is apparent by the sheer number of customers at the counter, seems to have hit off right from the start.
