Rs. 5 crore for development of libraries

The government sanctioned Rs. 5 crore for 2016-17 for the development of libraries in Kurnool district, District Grandhalaya Samstha chairman S. Dhana Reddy said on Wednesday.

Addressing the samstha’s general body meeting in his chambers, he said the district library and 58 branch libraries have been sanctioned Rs. 51 lakh for purchase of new books, Rs. 9 lakh for procurement of books for competitive exams and Rs. 10 lakh for furniture.

Ten branch libraries were sanctioned Rs. 2 lakh for providing power supply, purchase of generator, air coolers, Rs. 1 lakh for office automation and for e-grandhalaya software in the meeting, Mr. Dhana Reddy said.

The general body members K. Sudarshan Gupta (an NGO), Sobharani (Nandyal municipal councillor) Sriramulu (MEO), V. Sankaraiah, P. Hidayathullah Khan and Grandhalaya Samstha secretary Lalitha passed a resolution to seek approval for constructing library buildings, protecting lands allotted for libraries and installing biometric system and closed circuit cameras. Proposals would be sent seeking administrative approval of Rs. 3 crore for constructing seven library buildings.
