YSR Congress MLAs and senior leaders on Friday staged a demonstration, protesting the removal of the portrait of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy from the Assembly lobbies.
During the protest in front of the AP Legislature Secretary’s office on the Assembly premises, the party leaders termed the move as a vindictive approach of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) against the lead Oppostition (YSRC) party and said that the portrait was installed in the lobbies by then Government headed by K. Rosaiah after obtaining consent from the members of the house.
Alleging that the portrait was removed at the instance from the TDP leaders, they wanted Legislature Secretary K. Satyanarayana Rao to ensure that the portrait was put back in its place with immediate effect.

YSRC MLA G. Srikanth Reddy said the portrait was removed on the pretext that there was some problem with its frame.
“On verification, no damage was found on the portrait. “This clearly shows the ruling party’s vindictive attitude towards the main Opposition,” he said, adding the YSRC leaders wanted to submit a representation to Speaker K. Sivaprasada Rao, but the latter was not available. The protest was called off after the Legislature Secretary promised that he would bring the issue to the notice of the Speaker.
