A TRS activist, who was accused of robbing gold and cash from Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS), died in district headquarters hospital here on Sunday night.
Superintendent of Police V. Shiva Kumar told The Hindu on Monday that Dharmapuri police picked up Chandraiah alias Chandu (23) on Saturday for questioning in a theft case where 1.345 kg gold and Rs.2.86 lakh cash was stolen on December 24 night. He was a driver for Dharmapuri PACS chairman and TRS leader Rajender.
During interrogation, Chandu confessed to have committed the offence and police recovered 2.5 grams of gold from his possession. Meanwhile, he disclosed the names of other two suspects from Buggaram and Devampet in Dharmapuri mandal.

Police shifted him to the Korutla police station for further investigation. On Saturday, he jumped from the second floor of the police station and sustained head injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital and later to the district headquarters hospital where he succumbed to injuries, the SP said.
The news of his death spread like wildfire and a large number of TRS activists arrived at the hospital where his body was brought for autopsy and demanded stern action against the police personnel involved in the incident. TRS legislators Koppula Eshwar, K. Vidyasagar Rao and Gangula Kamalakar consoled the bereaved family members. Meanwhile, the SP said the negligence on part of the police personnel would be dealt seriously and added that an investigation would be conducted by judicial first class magistrate.
