Religious fervour marks Srinivasa Kalyanam

Devotees witness celestial weddingat the Srigiri Venkateswara temple during annual Brahmotsavam in Ongole on Wednesday.

Amid religious fervour, Srinivasa Kalyanam was performed in a grand manner as part of the annual Brahmotsavam at Srigiri Venkateswara temple here on Wednesday.

The rituals started with performance of ‘Abhishekam’ to the idols of Sridevi, Bhoodevi Sameta Venkateswara Swamy by 40 Vedic priests led by Divi Phanikumaracharya from S.V. Vedapatasala, Dharmagiri, Tirumala.

This was followed by performance of ‘Vishvakesena puja’, ‘Punyakavachanam’, ‘Rakshabandhan’, ‘Kanyadhanam’, ‘Mangaldharanam’ and Raja Homam for world peace and prosperity, said temple founder trustee Aluru Venkata Ramana Rao.

Vedic scholar M. Venkateswara Sarma gave a fine commentary of the celestial wedding held in the presence of Courtallam Siddheswari Peetham Pontiff Sri Siddheswarananda Bharati Swamy. The seer blessed the devotees on the occasion.

Devotional fervour marked rendition of songs associated with the religious event by Nadaswara exponent Padakamuri Sambaiah, the temple Asthana Vidwan, and his troupe.

Children vied with one another in capturing in their mobile phones the events associated with the celestial wedding including exchanging of garlands.

Performance of Paruveta Kollatam hogged the limelight during Thirividi Utsavam held in the evening. Earlier, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Asthana Vidwan Garimella Balakrishna Prasad and Bulemma rendered songs in praise of Lord Venkateswara. Devotional fervour marked performance of ‘Oonjala seva’ as part of the festival.
