Red sanders’ smuggling

One arrested, 12 logs seized

After a brief lull in red sanders’ smuggling activities across Seshachalam forests, a skirmish was reported in the Bheemaram ghat area near A. Rangampet in the early hours of Friday.

A combing party of the Red Sanders Anti Smuggling Task Force came face-to-face with a group of smuggling operatives transporting red sanders logs.

Alarmed by the sudden confrontation, many of them ran deep into the forests.

However, the task force officials managed to apprehend Ramajayam, a woodcutter from Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu.

The officials also seized 12 red sanders logs from thee spot. The value of the logs was put at over Rs.50 lakh.
