R&B takes up Rs. 649-crore worth Pushkaram works

The Roads and Buildings Department has taken up 191 Pushkaram works worth Rs.649 crore in East and West Godavari districts.

Addressing a review meeting on Tuesday attended by engineers, contractors and officials engaged in Pushkaram works, Engineer-in-Chief (ENC) of the R&B department M. Gangadhar said the works would be complete by June. He said the roads will be laid as per the prescribed standards and no deviations will be allowed.

Mr. Gangadhar said that in East Godavari district, the department had taken up 81 works at an estimated cost of Rs.330 crore and in West Godavari, 110 works with Rs.339 crore. Tenders were called for 42 works in East Godavari district and the remaining 28 works would also be awarded to contractors under tender system.

In East Godavari, major Pushkaram works included in construction of roads from Rajahmundry to the airport, Bheemavaram-Narsapur Road and Bheemadolu-Kamavarapukota Road. Mr. Gangadhar said the department officials had identified 1.88 lakh cubic meters of metal near Katheru in East Godavari against the need of 1 lakh truckloads. He said the remaining metal would be procured from Pangidi, Paidipalem and Yeleswaram.
