Rain brings no relief for water-starved denizens

Two summer storage tanks in Ongole almost empty

Heavy rain lashed Ongole and its surrounding areas on Monday inundating low-lying areas.

However, the wet spell did not bring relief to the people facing acute drinking water shortage with the two summer storage tanks in the city almost getting empty.

There is no immediate scope of the city getting water replenishment from river Krishna to the summer storage tanks as the Srisailam and Nagarjunasgar reservoirs did not receive flood waters even in September, official sources said.

The city received 8 mm rainfall in the afternoon catching off guard the people moving out on the streets.

Roads submerged

Even arterial roads, including Kurnool Road, 60-Feet Road and Trunk Road got submerged in rain water, which, however, receded with municipal sanitary workers intervening to set right drains clogged at several places.

Students joyed

Students of the PVRBM High School made merry as the rain left the play ground in a sheet of water. Motorists had a tough time avoiding potholes filled with water on many roads.

The water collected in vacant plots added to the misery of the people in colonies, especially on the city outskirts, adding to the woes of people who have to put up with mosquito menace.
