It will lead to similar demands from other castes, says Malladi

Puducherry Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao on Sunday said the Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to extend 5% reservation to the Kapus under the BC-F category was not fair.

Along with the BC leaders from Yanam, Mr. Krishna Rao addressed a press conference and rebuked the government’s move.

“There is nothing wrong in extending financial support to those economically backward among the forward castes. But the decision to extend reservation to the Kapus is nothing but hampering the chances of those who are enjoying reservation as their constitutional right,” he said, adding that the decision might lead to further complications in the form of legal battles and similar demands from other castes.

Mr. Krishna Rao also faulted actor and Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan’s view of extending 15% reservation to the Kapus as their population was higher in the State.

“It shows the lack of awareness of the actor on the Constitution and the reservation system,” he said.

Stating that the BCs were singled out in the present political system, Mr. Krishna Rao, who hails from the fishermen community, said no political party was taking up the cause of the BCs.

“The BC’s won’t be silent any longer. We are getting united and discussing the issue at length. We are forming a core committee and will announce the future course of action soon,” he said.
