Probe almost over: SP

Superintendent of Police G. Srinivas on Monday said that Rajnikanth of Kainikatti Street in Chittoor, who was arrested on Monday, had supplied a revolver and bullets to the main accused in the Mayor murder case, Chandrasekhar alias Chintu and git it serviced afresh prior to the murder.

Another accused Narendra Babu alias Pakodi was also involved in getting the weapon serviced. Srinivasachari of Chintamani town in Karnataka had supplied 16 rounds of bullets to Chintu before murders. Kamalakar of Bengaluru played a key role in transporting Chintu to various places by providing him a black car and arranging accommodation for him at a hotel near Bengaluru airport. The four were produced before the local court, which remanded them to Chittoor jail.

The SP said as part of the searches, the police teams seized the car used for transport of Chintu, along with a revolver, burqah used for murders. Another car which was used to shift Chintu to Bengaluru from Chittoor was also seized.

Mr. Srinivas said after committing the murder on November 17, Chintu had fled Chittoor immediately in a car (supplied by an accomplice) and reached Bengaluru taking a circuitous route touching Kattamanchi, GD Nellore, Tiruttani, Vellore, Krishnagiri, and Bengaluru. After taking shelter in Punganur for over a week, Chintu surrendered at Chittoor court . The SP said so far the investigation was complete by 80 per cent.
