Private school staff ‘attack’ student at home

A tenth class student has alleged that the staff of Sri Chaitanya School attacked him at school and at home on charges of copying. The boy’s parents lodged a complaint with the Machavaram police.

According to the student, the school principal, dean and a teacher beat him up alleging that he was copying in the weekly assignment. When the boy escaped from the school and reached home, located at Maruti Nagar in the city, the staff came to home and allegedly attacked the student.

When the victim’s family members tried to prevent them, the staff pushed them aside, the boy’s parents alleged.

However, the school management said they went to the student’s home only to check whether he reached home as he had run away from the school. They lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the boy escaped from the school.

Machavaram Circle Inspector K. Umamaheswara Rao said that both the parties lodged complaints and the allegations were being verified. A case would be registered, Mr. Rao said.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) Chairperson G. Hymavathi condemned the highhandedness of Sri Chaitanya School staff, who chased the boy till his home and allegedly attacked him. She appealed to the police to book the culprits who beat the minor boy in the school as well as at home.
