POS devices to check lapses at fair price shops

Krishna Collector Babu.A on Friday announced that listed essential commodities would be supplied to the beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System through E-POS system from March 1 in the district.

The pilot project would be implemented at 545 fair prices shops in the district in the first phase.

“We have spent an estimated Rs. 3 crore to purchase of POS devices and weighing machines. Nearly Rs. 115 crore can be saved through implementation of the project in the district,” said Mr. Babu.

Aadhaar seeding

Mr. Babu also demonstrated the usage and operation of E-POS device to the fair price shop dealers here at a special meeting on Friday.

The Aadhaar number of the beneficiary would be linked to the POS device in order to keep the beneficiary update about the status of the distribution of the essential commodities on a regular basis, apart from ensuring transparency in the process.

Special Route Officers would also be deployed for transportation of the commodities from stock point to the fair price shops, the Collector added.
