Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar Goud, along with representatives of various SC\ST and OBC association leaders, on Friday filed a case against sociologist Ashis Nandy with the Karimnagar Two town police for his reported remarks that the OBCs, SC and STs were more corrupt.

The MP, accompanied by Vemulawada temple board chairman Bomma Venkateshwar, former Zila Parishad chairman A. Laxman Kumar and others, filed the case under the SC\ST atrocities Act.

The MP said Nandy’s statement, which he had made during the recently concluded Jaipur Literary Festival, had insulted and hurt the sentiments of the depressed classes.

Shankar Rao’s arrest condemned

Condemning the arrest of former Minister P. Shankar Rao, the Karimnagar MP said they would approach the National SC\ST Commission and lodge a complaint against the police for the alleged ill-treatment meted out to Shankar Rao.

“He is not a criminal. What forced the police to treat a legislator in such a manner,” he asked.
