The Nalgonda Police and Narsingbatla villagers have set an example in dealing with the ever-increasing water crisis in the rural parts of the district.
To put to optimal use the seepage water leaking out from the AMRP canal, which passes close to the village, they made arrangements to fill up the village tank with the seepage water, which was otherwise going waste and flowing down into the Kanagal stream. The police and villagers dug a 10-foot-deep pit in a five metre radius and made the leaked water flow down into the pit, where they had installed two 25 HP pumps to pump the water into the village tank located half-a -kilometre away. The de-silting work of the tank having 110 CFT storage capacity is under way under the State government’s flagship programme – Mission Kakatiya.
They received a grant of Rs. 25 lakh from the Constituency Development Fund to procure the pumps and to lay the pipeline up to the tank. Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal said that their intention was to keep the village tank always full, which would eventually help increase the ground water level, apart from helping fishermen breed fish.

As part of the Janamaithri programme, Mr. Duggal and the then Sub-Inspector of Police, Nalgonda rural police station, K. Dhanunjaya, had appointed constable S. Shankar as village police officer (VPO) of Narasingbalta a year ago. The police had decided get involved in some development activities to reach out to the people. Villagers, led by MPTC Shankar informed the police that the maximum utilisation of seepage water would do good to the village. With the help of the district administration and public representatives, the police and villagers could install the pumps and complete the laying of pipes. MPTC Shankar said that the Irrigation authorities at Nagarjunasagar release water to AMRP canal during kharif and rabi seasons. “They are waiting for electricity connection to runs the pumps,” he said. By the next kharif season, Mr. Shankar said, they would pump water in to the tank.
Mr. Duggal said that they would invite Energy Minister G. Jagadishwar Reddy to inaugurate the project.
