PDSU, SFI call for bandh of schools, colleges

The Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) and the Students Federation of India (SFI) have called a Statewide educational bandh on August 7 to press their 15-point charter of demands.

“The merger of State-run schools in villages on the pretext of rationalisation by the government and the introduction of semester system in degree colleges are not in good taste,” PDSU State general secretary K. Mallikarjun and SFI district president Ch. Sudhakar said here.

They also demanded that the government set up educational institutions of higher learning as promised by the Centre to compensate the State for the loss of seats post-bifurcation.

They also stressed the need for setting up a State university in Prakasam district. Demanding a comprehensive probe into the Rishiteswari suicide case, they said the government should put in place a foolproof system to rid colleges of ragging and caste discrimination.

Their other demands included rollback of hike in mess charges for students of State-run hostels and filling up of vacancies of teachers.
