CPI State Secretary K. Narayana on Thursday demanded that a suo motu case be booked against J.C. Prabhakar Reddy, the owner of the Volvo bus which caught fire near Palem village on October 30, killing over 40 passengers.

The Joint Action Committee formed by the Palem bus fire victims, in association with the L&T, the National Highways Authority of India and the district administration launched work to construct a memorial at the Palem truck bay on Thursday, marking the 100 day of the accident. Mr. Narayana laid the foundation stone for the memorial, which is likely to come up in the next two months.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Narayana demanded that the private bus services be stopped in the State. Convener of the JAC, D. Sudhakar, suggested that all the employees working for the managements of private buses should be given jobs in the APSRTC.
