'Our son’s dream has been realised'

Kin of those who had committed suicide express happiness as they recall the sacrifices of their loved ones for separate Telangana

Talari Kishan and Kamalamma are happy after hearing about the formation of separate Telangana State. It was an emotional moment for them on Tuesday, for they lost their son Ramesh a class X student, who had committed suicide for a separate State in 2009, at Rajupet village in Medak mandal.

“Finally the dream of our son was realised and we are very happy today, though we lost him. Inspired by the Telangana movement he had participated in many agitation programmes. However, he was worried whether it would be realised or not and committed suicide by hanging himself leaving behind a suicide note. Today he is not there but his sacrifice will be remembered forever in our village,” say Kishan and Kamalamma.

“We are proud of him. Many like him sacrificed their life for a separate State and from now on we will be living in the new State, a dream of the people of the region,” said Ashok, brother of Ramesh.

Same was the feeling of P. Indrasena Reddy, father of P. Ishant Reddy, who committed suicide by immolation at Osmania University three years ago. “The sacrifice of my son became fruitful and my second son who completed B.Tech will hopefully get a job in the new State. We are happy that Ishant’s dream has been realised,” Mr. Indrasena Reddy said.

Killed in 1969 firing

Sara Nagamma and Bheemalapally Harish have no words to explain their happiness. Their brothers Sara Krishna and Bheemalapally Shankar, while still in their teens, were killed in the police firing during the 1969 Telangana agitation.

“We never thought that their dream will come true in our lifetime. But now we are able to see that the State they had dreamt of is going to become a reality,” Nagamma and Harish told The Hindu .
