YSRCP leader Botcha Satyanarayana on Tuesday said the party MPs, who have been asked by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to meet her on May 29, would insist that their resignations be accepted immediately.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Satyanarayana said following a decision taken by the leadership, the MPs tendered their resignations to register their protest against the Modi government’s failure to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. He said the party had invited TDP MPs to join hands for achieving the SCS in the interest of people, but the latter did not come forward.
“We wanted to attract the attention of the entire nation through resignations by all the MPs, but the TDP failed to respond. For our party president, people’s interests are more important than posts,” he said.

He said the TDP had unleashed a misinformation campaign against his party that it was hand-in-glove with the BJP. “If the TDP is sincere about its intentions on SCS, let its party MPs resign tomorrow,” he challenged.
Five YSRCP MPs put in their papers on April 6 after the Centre did not allow a debate on the no-confidence motion.
At Ongole, party’s Chief Whip in Parliament Y.V. Subba Reddy said the Speaker had called them to ascertain if the resignations had been made of their own volition.

“We will explain to the Speaker that we are not under any duress and press for acceptance of the same immediately,” he said.
