The Vamsadhara continues to receive heavy inflows from its catchment area located both in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, causing worry among people living in the low-lying areas.
The situation is likely to continue for the next couple of days with the weatherman forecasting heavy rain in Srikakulam.
Irrigation officials have lifted the gates to release 67,292 cusecs in anticipation of additional inflows from Odisha.

With the neighbouring State experiencing incessant rain, the Vamsadhara would continue to be in spate, irrigation officials said.
Irrigation Superintendent Engineer Surrender Reddy said details about inflows and outflows were being given to the senior officials, including district Collector K. Dhananjaya Reddy.
The Nagavali located near Parvatipuram in Vizianagaram district received 25,250 cusecs and the outflow from it was 9,914 cusecs, Assistant Engineer P. Srinivasa Rao said.

Warning to fishermen
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its forecast that the condition of the sea would be very rough over the north west Bay of Bengal for the next 24 hours.
The district administrations of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam directed fishermen not to venture into the sea till Thursday.
Collector’s directive
Mr. Dhananjaya Reddy, in a teleconference, directed the tahsildars of Hiramandalam, Narasannapeta, and other areas to shift the families residing in the low-lying areas to safer locations.
A control room (08942-240557) was set up in the Srikakulam Collectorate to monitor the flood situation in the district.
Vizianagaram district Collector M. Hari Jawaharlal and Parvatipuram ITDA Project Officer G. Lakshmi Sha said the situation was under control despite the Nagavali receiving huge inflows for the last two days.
