The water at Singur project has been drying fast indicating the onset of a severe summer. Though the officials exude confidence of supplying drinking water to twin cities and Sangareddy, they say that water has to be lifted instead of gravity supply. The government has already released .025 tmcft water to Yedupayala to meet the requirements of the devotees who took part in the recently concluded Maha Sivarathri celebrations.
According to official sources, as on Friday, the water levels at Singur reservoir stood at 7.78 tmcft. As the water reaches lower level, it has to be pumped to supply drinking water against the gravity system in which it was functioning.
“We were able to supply drinking water even during 2003 when the water level was lowest with 2.5 tmcft. So there will be no problem in supplying drinking water. However, water has to be used judiciously,” said an officer.
