The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited and the State government are keen to complete land acquisition process by end of October, 2013 to construct nuclear project in Kovvada of Ranasthalam mandal as the officials feared that it would be an upheaval task to acquire properties before the general election.
According to sources, Chief Minister’s Office and top officials of revenue department have reportedly directed the district administration to complete land acquisition as early as possible so that it would not be converted as a political issue during general election. There should not be hurdle for acquisition of 599 acres of private land even if elections are advanced.
The government land of around 1,500 acres will be handed over to the NPCIL in a couple of months. With the latest directive from the government, officials and staff of Kovvada land acquisition unit have gathered details of all the individuals to be affected with construction of 6,400 mega watts nuclear plant in Ranasthalam mandal.

“A notification will be issued very soon by mentioning the all the property owners. Individuals can approach us if they have any doubts or objections with regard to properties of individuals. Only after the notification, the government would announce benefit package,” said a senior revenue official.
NPCIL officials have been trying to convince that an exclusive package will be announced even for the landless residents of Kovvada, Tekkali and other villages. Financial support will be announced since many people of fishermen community are going to loss their livelihood. “An exclusive colony will be constructed apart from R and R package. We want villagers to enjoy the fruits of economic development with the construction of the nuclear plant,” said an official of the NPCIL.
