Children from weaker sections will be hit: student leaders

Campaign for education: NSUI leaders staging a protest at the Collectorate in Nellore on Friday.

The leaders of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) took out a rally here on Friday in protest against the rationalisation of government schools in the State.

They demanded that GO No. 29 be withdrawn by the government immediately so as to stop the rationalisation process keeping in view the overall educational interests of the weaker sections people, including the SC, ST, BC and minorities.

The NSUI leaders and activists later staged a demonstration at the Collectorate and criticised the government for ‘trying to harm the interests of the weaker sections’ by going ahead with the rationalisation process.

District Congress president Panabaka Krishnaiah said that nearly 300 schools were being closed in the name of rationalisation and this would mean a big blow to the children of weaker sections who would not be able to afford high cost education in corporate schools.

Mr. Krishnaiah called upon all the opposition parties to come together and intensify the agitation. NSUI leader G. Kesava Narayana and others were present.
