NRI, mother-in-law killed as car hits lorry on NH

Tragedy struck the family of an NRI visiting his in-laws in the city when the car in which they were returning home from Chittoor district met with an accident at Surareddypalem on the Chennai-Kolkata highway in Prakasam district in the wee hours of Thursday, resulting in the death of the NRI and his mother-in-law. The car driver was also killed.

The deceased were identified as V.Sasikiran (44), a software professional from Tennessee State in USA and his mother-in-law, Vijayalakshmi and Y. Bharath Kumar (25), the car driver.

They were residents of the Municipal Employees Colony in Vijayawada.

The techie’s father, wife, daughter and son, who were injured, were rushed to a corporate hospital here, Tangutur SI M.V.Sivakumar said.

In the same lane

The car driver did not notice the lorry coming in the same lane in the opposite direction in view of six-laning work in progress, resulting in the accident, Ongole Deputy Superintendent of Police G.Srinivasa Rao said.

The family was returning from Kannipakkam after visiting Tirupati and other temples in Chittoor district.

Pastor, friend killed

In another accident, P. Eshwar Reddy (57), a pastor from Kadapa and his friend M.Nagaraju (35) were killed and four others injured when the car in which they were travelling collided against a lorry at Yedugundlapadu, after the car’s front tyre came off.

They were returning from Kakinada where they had gone to finalise a marriage alliance for the pastor’s son, Maddipadu SI M. Devakumar said.
