A new record in vocal exposition of the carnatic music was set in Anantapur town on Sunday by vocalist and danseuse Sandhya Murthy and her disciples singing 108 kritis of Annamayya without break.
Starting off with ‘Srimannarayana’ in the presence of the representatives of Genius book of Records and Wonder book of records and hundreds of ‘rasikas’, the seemingly unending saga of mellifluous musical concert for over six hours was followed by ‘Meluko’ the ‘Bhupalam kriti’, yet again in Adi talam, truly awakening the audience into the age old vocal traditions of the Carnatic music.
While several kritis flowed from the flawlessly rendered concert, in spite of the large number of singers, including several in their teens, led by Ms. Sandhya Murthy herself on stage, the refreshing rendition of ‘Vinaro Bhagyamu’ in ‘Suddha Dhanyasi’ ragam set to Adi talam and ‘Deva Devam Bhaje’ the audience enthralled, giving one a hope that carnatic music and its lovers were not a forgotten memory.

Ms. Sandhya Murthy, who has trained several disciples in Anantapur over the years, indeed led a stupendous effort in ensuring that the string of kritis was not broken for even a few moments, thanks to what seemed a flawlessly organised event, the first such in Anantapur.
Speaking to The Hindu , the South India Chief coordinator for Genius Book of Records, Mr. Bingi Narendra Goud, said that the effort was a first for them too in that 108 kritis of a ‘Vaggeyakar’, Annamacharya in this case, were sung by 150 people, non stop.
Ms. Sandhya Murthy was also given the certificates to that effect by representatives of Genius Book of Records and Wonder Book of Records.
