Asserting that the electoral understanding with the TDP in Telangana will be continued despite the poll reverses, AICC secretary C.D. Meyyappan has said that Congress president Rahul Gandhi will announce the decision on tie-up in Andhra Pradesh at an appropriate time, taking into view the overall interests of the nation and the State.
Addressing the media here on Sunday, Mr. Meyyappan, in reply to a question, said, “The Congress has no regrets for having an electoral understanding with the TDP. All Congressmen will abide by the decision of Mr. Gandhi for the 2019 elections.”

“There is growing realisation among the people of the State that the Congress alone can grant Special Category Status and implement all the promises made at the time of bifurcation,” he said.
The downfall of the Narendra Modi Government had started with the Congress wresting power from the saffron party in three States, he added. The Congress in the State was well-prepared to face the elections, he said after reviewing the preparedness in the Ongole LS constituency.

Welcoming DMK president’s proposal to name Mr. Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate, he said, “All congressmen are keen to see Mr. Gandhi as the Prime Minister.”
He dismissed as “personal opinion” the former Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram’s reported statement that the Congress had not officially named Mr. Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate and that the decision would be taken only after the elections.
