Despite the helmet rule being enforced from Wednesday, police have decided to not to collect penalties from the violators for a month, giving time to the riders to get used to with the rule.

Prakasam SP Ch.Srikanth said that they would focus on educating people on the benefits of wearing helmets before going for stringent enforcement of the rule. “We are wearing helmets while driving motorcycles to make people aware about the regulation, explained DSP (Traffic) J. Ram Babu. In July, the Traffic Police would educate people on how lives could be saved by wearing helmet.

Meanwhile, Tirupati Urban Police have installed banners highlighting the importance of using helmets. The department has emphasised on the usage of certified helmets and urged motorists not to opt for cheap helmets in a bid to save some money. Many roadside outlets mushroomed on different streets across the city.
