No plan to quit BJP, says Purandeswari

BJP Mahila Morcha in-charge Daggubati Purandeswari on Saturday said she had no plans to quit the party. She also declined to comment on the political future of her husband Venkateswara Rao.

Asked to comment on the speculation in a section of the media that Mr. Rao, who had contested unsuccessfully for the Assembly elections on the YSRCP ticket, was under pressure to convince her to desert the BJP, Ms. Purandeswari said there were no truth in it. The BJP leader was here to attend an interactive meeting organised with the beneficiaries of Central-sponsored schemes, which was addressed by MP and former Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu.

“I am wedded to the ideals of the BJP. I am very much impressed with the revolutionary schemes being implemented by the party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all-India president Amit Shah,” she said.

When asked about her husband’s political future, Ms. Purandeswari shot back, “Ask him about it.”

“Every adult member of my family applies discretion in choosing his or her future,” she added.

Ms. Purandeswari also dismissed reports of possible merger of the TDP with the BJP. “Only those having faith in the BJP’s ideals and leadership of Mr. Modi are joining the party. That does not mean that everyone from the TDP is joining the BJP,” she said.
