Though water supply pipelines abut the drainage canals in Kurnool city, there have been no major instances of supply of contaminated water, save occasional leakage of pipelines in a few parts of the congested roads in the old city.
Residents of about 15 houses in Lao Bali Dargah street in the old city had complained a couple of days ago about damage to a water pipeline, and civic officials swooped on the area and workers took up repair works, according to a resident Zaheer Ahmed. As a water pipeline broke and got submerged in murky drain water, the water supplied was contaminated and the residents complained to Kurnool Municipal Commissioner C.B. Harinatha Reddy on March 5, and workers were deployed to replace the pipeline, he added.
There was a complaint from residents of Roza street about damage to a water pipeline. With Rajya Sabha member T.G, Venkatesh setting up over 100 free mineral water supply plants in different areas in Kurnool city and some more set up by godman Sri Balasaibaba and others has resulted in availability of clean water to the people of Kurnool.

Following the deaths owing to water contamination in Guntur, Kurnool Municipal Commissioner C.B. Harinatha Reddy held an emergency meeting with the water works engineers on the preventive measures, and deputed them to inspect the water pipelines and avert any scope for contamination of water.
Stating that the civic body was promptly acting on grievances aired in Dial Your Commissioner programme by sending teams to rectify the problems, Mr. Reddy said a toll-free number was publicised to receive complaints and replace worn-out water pipelines and check leakages and seepages.
The pits around the public taps which led to stagnation of water were closed and individual tap connections were given to households under Amruth scheme, Mr. Reddy said. The scope for water scarcity in the ensuing summer was dismal in view of adequate water storage in Gajuladinne reservoir and drawal of water from Pandikona reservoir, he added.
