IIT-Tirupati the lone exception, Minister tells RS

Several institutions of national importance, including a Central University, have been sanctioned for the residual State of Andhra Pradesh under the A.P. Reorganisation Act, 2014. The other institutions are IIT, NIT, IIM, IISER, Tribal University, IIIT and IIPE.

The State government, on its part, has allotted land as agreed upon. And yet, the institutions are functioning from temporary campuses.

As per the Act, all these institutions, except IIPE, will be coming up with the Central government funding at an estimated cost of ₹6,143 crore.

The Central government has, since 2014, made a budgetary allocation of ₹886 crore for the seven institutions and released just ₹616.14 crore.

This was disclosed by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Satya Pal Singh in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday while answering a question put by YSR Congress Party member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy.

Dr. Satya Pal Singh said construction work pertaining to IIT-Tirupati alone started.
